A Winter Walk on Tomboy Road in Telluride, Colorado

February is a great month in Telluride. It is one where you can receive 17 inches of perfect new powder for the slopes in a week, and a few days later still be taking a gorgeous hike up the Tomboy Road. Tomboy Road is a South facing aspect so it is warm and sunny and so many locals love to get a nice little work out by walking up the road that there is almost always a good foot path even in the snow.

The views are wonderful across to Bear creek, over to the ski area and straight at the box with all of those astounding peaks. With every foot step the view keeps getting better and better.

There are beautiful red rocks along the inner side of the road and it’s a  pure delight. There are a few waterfalls frozen over but underneath you can hear the water moving with ease, a lovely living water sculpture~

It’s a great walk because you can make your descent quickly and be sipping a peppermint tea and having a snack down in town in no time!

In my opinion, just some rugged trail running sneakers does the trick, a sweater and a light down coat makes for perfect layering. If you like a bit of extra stability, grab a pair of walking poles or an old ski pole etc. Those are helpful on the way down for some. Trail runners, light down coats and poles all easily found at any of our awesome sports sots here n the town of Telluride and the Town of Mountain Village. So many great ones to choose from you might need a few!
